I am looking at buying my first enclosed trailer for snowmobiling. I can’t afford new and there are very few used actual sled specific trailers for sale right now. My question is who uses regular enclosed trailers for sleds? I want to haul 3 mountain sleds (165). What size trailer would I need? Do I need 8’ wide or can I do 7.5 wide. Sorry for the long winded post. Thanks in advance

We use a 24’ enclosed sled trailer (2010 Charmac) for four long tracks
Keep looking , tough to find right now for sure just have cash and be willing to drive a bit....
only real advice I’d give is they are not all equal, like everything else you get what u pay for...

We just purchased our first enclosed trailer (very low budget) is 64” tall inside (68” peak has slight pitch to roof) total box length is 13’ and has an 80” v nose 8’ wide inside. As you can see barely enough room for 2-144’s and 1 155” (could probably for three 165’s of newer style sleds as they stagger a lot better) could get away with a 7’6” wide if you have new sleds with narrow front ends as a stock mtn sled is 43” wide or 7’2” wide (2 wide in trailer) might be able to get away with a 7’6” W 18’ L if it has a 18”-24”+ v nose loading all from front into rear facing the same way.

Trailers are selling for a premium this year used. If willing to travel you can get a brand new one in the Midwest (Chicago land area) for cheaper than used ones out west. 15-40% cheaper depending.

Get some 2x4s and layout your three sleds then create a 8’ wide trailer vs 7’6” and see how long/wide of a trailer you would need. Yes you can just lay them out and measure but using the 2x4s to make a structure realllly helps put the size of trailer needed into perspective.

Good luck and happy sledding!

Ps our 64” ceiling is not as annoying as expected

Here are 3 sleds in an 8 1/2 x 20 trailer. If you kick the back end over you could get away with an 18' box.

Using the above configuration, I put three sleds in a Charmac with a 12' box and a 6' vee all the time. Generally a 153 and (2) 162s but it fit easily. At least a 14' box and 5'V makes it easier. Now I have a Mirage with a 16' box and 4' V. All 3 fit in forward pretty easy. So an 8.5 x 18 or 8.5 x 20 cargo trailer would fit (3) sleds pretty easy.

With a 20' box and 4' V we put (4) in all the time. One just needs to go in backwards.

With new narrow sleds, you should be able to get two sleds side by side in a 7.5' wide now.

Enclosed trailers are so much nicer. Storage and keeps the crap off. Plus a warm and dry place to change with a little propane heater.

you dont need sled specific but it completely depends what you want out of your trailer. is it simply for keeping road grime off of your machines? do you plan on hauling a SxS and need extra head room? do you want to be able to haul a car? do you plan on heating it to thaw thing out/have a place to get dressed or have a beer after a days ride? IMO get as big as you can afford. nothing worse than tripping over sleds trying to strap/unstrap them, no room for fuel/gear, packed so tight sleds are rubbing each other or the walls of the trailer etc. i chose to be able to have 5 162's easily strapped, plenty of room for fuel/gear, fully insulated, dual heaters, tv and have room to sit in the front and have a party with all 5 sleds still inside. also can haul 3 rzr's or two cars (both have been done). once you know exactly what you want out of it then you can shop, way harder to add/change down the road.
