Looking to install a steel drive shaft from a chain case axys, to one that has the factory belt drive on it, then reinstall the stock belt drive back on it. I'll aso need to change drivers. Can this be done without any problem?

I’m of no help but I DO remember lots of arguing about this back in the day when everyones aluminum shafts were grenading, so be sure to do a lil research.

I did the summer of 2016 on my '16 Axys. I weighed the two shafts and there was minimal difference. If I remember right, there was a 4oz difference. The aluminum had 8T 2.86 pitch Avid drivers and the steel shaft had 7T 3.0 pitch Avid drivers. Make sure you put some grease on the splines for the QD pulley as the steel shaft's splines are not coated for corrosion protection. You will need the shorter 10x25mm bolt for the lower QD pulley unless Polaris changed the shaft from 2016 to 2019/2020 models to accept the longer bolt that is on the QD sleds.

And while you are doing it you can also use an old Dragon shaft that has the speedo stub sticking out and 8 tooth drivers for less rolling resistance, with a TKI gear down of course.

It's on my buddys sled, he kills everything he owes, so he wants the steel shaft hoping it will be stronger.

i am in the same boat. I have a steel shaft from my SKS. It has 8 tooth 2.86 drivers. I would like to put 7 tooth 3 pitch, or 6 tooth 2.5 pitch drivers on it.

can anyone confirm for sure what lower QD pulley bolt is needed for the steel shaft?

If the shaft cam from a chaincase model, it's an M10X1.25X20 bolt but a 25mm will work. It comes stock with an 8.8 grade, but get one that's 10.9. I buy ARP bolts to use on the QD and have never had a problem.

Here's a link to where I get mine from:
