Has anyone tried to shorten a g4 tunnel

Just wondered if cutting down the tunnel on the g4 is doable like they are doing on the poo. I haven't looked at a g4 to see what's in the rear of the tunnel to make it not possable. Like cooling, or other obsticles. Looking at getting a g4. Not sure I can find an expert, may pick up a 19 holdover for a good deal.

So I went over to a friends house that has a 19 175 and there is cooling that runs all the way back, I see now why he shortened it in the middle, taking it off the rear would be a task for sure.

Just buy a shorter model than you intend on having, and install longer rails and a new track.

So just for the parts, to convert a 154 to a 165 track, looks like:

Ice Age rails (165) $500
New 165 track $1129
Anything else?

Install cost?

And I think I’m missing a few things

None of it is a huge deal. But it adds up. And it all needs to work together as a package. I used to put a lot of work into sleds to attempt to make them better. Now I just buy a new one and ride it. It’s amazing how good stock sleds have become

I forgot about all that other stuff. Def makes more sense to just buy an Expert.

If I hadn’t snow checked a 2019 last spring I would have ordered an Expert

It has all the things I added to the last couple sleds.... lower bars (skinnier too), adjustable limiter strap, smaller seat, along with all the other stuff I mentioned earlier. Those jerks keep making me want a new sled every year.

Dittos, I pretty much quit modding sleds. Started to become a wasteland for my budget... now I'm gonna start wasting it on vettes

Just started doing mine from the back (2018 175). Removed 6.5in from the back and will reuse the back by simply cutting the first layer of the cooler and welding the end back on. 20190929_141418.jpg20190929_151640.jpg

Goind to reuse the back piecr as its the same for all model years. Took about a day to get there and should be another to finish it. Was going to replace the track and drivers anyway.

Should be alot stronger than cutting in the middle and rewelding all around. The loop is already supported by the upper face of the radiator so you just need to weld one face.

I cut mine in the middle so that I could avoid any warping on the back of the cooler. That's a lot of welding in one area, it will he hard to keep it all nice and true. I also didnt want to burn all the powdercoat off the top of my tunnel and wanted the lines to match up on the original taillight housing. Mostly just cosmetic stuff, but I have a nice finished product. I'm not at all worried about it cracking in the middle.
