2017 SkiDoo Etec 850

Tom Ferry of Arctic Adventures SkiDoo in
Rosendale, NY brought a preproduction 2017 Etec 850 (longer stroke, not bigger bore) to DTR on 3/15/16 for independent dyno numbers for SkiDoo to [hopefully] brag about! Jim Cooper of Coopers Sales and Service SkiDoo brought his BUDS2 to try to monitor engine data. It took some doing, but 170+ HP with zero added timing was the final number.

A detailed dyno test data article is posted on DTR, including graphic comparison of the HP/ TQ curves of the 850 vs the 2015/2016 800!

Does anyone have the HP numbers from Dynotech for the 15/16 Poo? And do they have access to the 17 Poo? I read 154 hp on the 16. But not sure if that is correct.

That was on a break-in mode ecu if I remember correctly. It should make a few more in post break-in mode.

the 163 hp for the etec 800's seems high to me. my 08 ptek 800 seems similar to the etec 800's

Back to what this thread is about. The awesome 850 that Doo has built for us.

It would be very interesting see the power and torque curves of this engine vs the 800 etec. With the awesome bottom end this engine has I bet this sled will be able to kill it in the trees. I'll definitely be looking into making mine a big bore. Hopefully Big John can get this engine to bore out to make it a 925. That would be a monster!

154 hp is correct on the 15 and 16 axys at dtr

track- 10lbs
clutch-3lbs
crank-2lbs
add belt drive-2 to 3lbs

170 hp and 17 to 18 lbs less rotating mass is darn impressive.

I often times don't agree with Brother John, but this time I do ... The new drive clutch is a huge move forward for Skidoo and if your a mountain rider you have to like the torque of the 850 ... The only complaint I have heard about the 2017 sled is the 3.5 pitch on hard pack vibrates, Who Really Cares about hard pack.

170hp out of this new engine is pretty impressive. i can see why the polaris guys are angry, 16hp is significant

I though Doo was always making more HP than Poo? realistically what is the difference between the 16s and the 17s? Last question is skidoo still doing chaincase or are they 100% belt drive belt drive now?

Poo was at 154 last year right? And the years before that it was lower than that?

Last, for the sake of completeness, what is an A/C making these days?

Yes Doo has always been ahead of poo in hp. They are still chaincase.

Poo is at 154. The old pro was 145 ish.

I believe cat is at 162-165?

Sinceere question....

Where does it say that the crank on the 850 is 2 lbs less than the 800 E-Tech crank? I must have missed it but would like to see that.

I thought the new clutch was 2 lbs lighter than the heavy TRA?

I've heard great things about this new 850 from people that I respect in the field that have some seat time on the sled and are not compensated in some way by SkiDoo... some are die hard Polaris riders.

Keep on pushing the envelope BRP!
