I changed my mind. MY XP RIPS!!!

Just got in from the Snowies. I have two previous break-in rides done, so today was pull the trigger day:D. All of my handling concerns have vanished. Once you ride this sled "on the throttle" it works very, very well. My first two rides had me nervous about the handling. But those rides were done at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. The XP needs the loud handle to make 'er work. I ran against an M7162, XRS159, and a new Dragon 800 163. the Dragon and XRS were very close all day. My XP did a little bit better everywhere. How about 51mph of track speed in two feet of fresh:eek:. This sled hauls the mail. ZERO belt issues. The belt I ran today had 18 miles of break in time and worked(looks perfect!)great. Clutch heat was way down as well. I didn't change anything, but I did cut some vents on the clutch side for cooling. Pulled 8,300 RPM all day-clicker #3- at 10,000 to 11,000 feet. Showing 108 miles on the odometer. Can't wait for the next rip!:beer;:beer;:beer;

I am glad to hear some positive info I was beginning to wonder with all the negative posts. What track length is your sled?

Almost forgot this part..............My sled is bent:eek:. My uncle decided to finally ride my XP after 4 hours of drooling at it. He made it about 200 feet before cracking:eek: a "microwave oven" sized rock with the left ski. Over the bars he goes:D. I looked at the sled and didn't notice anything wrong. However;), after further examination(When putting it on the trailer and tying the skis down) I noticed the left ski is about 1" further to the back than the right one is. The A-arms on the right side don't line up, but the A-arms on the left DOO. I can't tell what's normal? It looks like the left side is pushed back quite a bit. Any ideas?? Can somebody go take a quick peek at the A-arms for me?:) Sorry, it's a 154X

I have replaced 5 "flying Nuns" on older revs. This could be your problem. I heard they are easier to replace on the new XP.

Ouch! I hope it's an easy fix. Good to hear a positive report though.:beer;

51 mph !?! Wow. On a climb, I assume?

I was dissappointed my first ride also. Power was way down and I had to fight it to make it work for me. In upper elevations it was a dog. Second ride it perked up and came to life and had great power and throttle response. I rode higher elevation and pulled much stronger and like you mentioned on the throttle it works much better. Ease to ride. I'm only at 89 miles and my buddies riding the same sled have a few rides on me and they claim it's stronger everytime the have ridden. Stock everything and not a problem with clutch/belts. I will tinker when i get about 200 miles.

trinitypowder,
Nice write up! Curious if you added, removed, or left the factory 1.7g. of weight in the primary pins?

Thanks,
-John

The 51mph was observed up a fairly shallow hill-maybe a 15 degree slope. As for the pin weight, I'm not sure. Felkers in Loveland set it up from the get go and I got a bill for $150 in clutch parts. He loves to re-clutch and he's good at it. I'm gonna get some pics of the damage and post them for you guy's to check out as well as my clutch vent pics.:face-icon-small-win

I love mine as well. Only 40ish miles. Am very happy in the deep powder performance, and no trenching. WOW, a great sled.

You have a bent nun! I would make your Uncle pony up and fix it!:mad:

I let someone ride my sled ONCE, they rolled it, cracked my hood and didn't offer to fix. NOBODY rides my stuff anymore!

Hey, I also have a 154 X and have bumped into a few "surprises" under the early season snow with my left ski. Nothing too major, but my left ski is also about 1" behind the right. Just like you, what's weird is the A-Arms on the left look lined up and the right looks out of whack. So, is the left 1" back or the right 1" forward?! In the old Revs it was easy to find and very obvious where the Nun "gave" and bent. The new front "frame" on the XP is impressive and I can't find anything up there that doesn't look dead straight.

I've ordered new A-Arms from Holz and they said that some people have bent XP A-Arms already. OK, set down the flame throwers, I've seen all the posts on how strong the A-Arms are and that a fully loaded semi truck could tow a frieght train suspended by the Space Shuttle connected only by Ski-Doo A-Arms, but I'm giving it a shot. I've bent and replaced 3 nuns on my '05 Rev and know exactly what that looks like. From what I can see, the front of the XP is straight. I'm going to go see what a brand new sled looks like today.

Ike, how the he!! can you boondock a sled when it has to be pinned to make it handle? ;)

Sorry to hear you bought one, or.. uh, I mean bent one. lol

If I would have known you were here Jim I would have said this, " I can't wait to see a Nytro go where this sled goes":eek:

Perhaps you could just aim for a simmilar sized microwave and smack it with your right ski, prolly knock it back into alignment...lol

8300 rpm?

I was told to dial it in at 8100. I have about 135 miles on my everest and decided to put the clickers at 3 and it is at 8000 now. i wonder if that will change after a full break in?? i better check it next time. the one time i had time to look down it was at 8000.

As far as the handling, i thought it was too easy, even without disconnecting!! of course i'm used to riding an '02 RMK.

think i can just pin it all the time now? i thought you needed at least 150 miles before staying at a certain RPM.

You should bring the RPM down a bit, you will tend to hit the rev limiter. I have mine on #2 and it pulls 8100rpm's at 7000ft. :D
Its better to be a little under the max than over or right at it.
