Revy - STD capital of BC???

Wow, there were hardly any sledders in Revy this past long weekend. Truely amazing. Will be interesting to see if this is a fad or the real deal for the granola crew.

Sure is a different atmosphere everywhere. Took me 45 min at Timmy's to get my stuff in the morning. I hear lots of businesses are dropping their support for the local clubs to cater to the skiers? Can't imagine they would spend nearly as much in a weekend as a sledder.

Going to be interesting to see how this pans out... Should be less of a sausage party in the bars though...

Thoughts?

Why do you think that? Do you think skiers don't eat, drink, or sleep in hotels? Short of a few tanks of premium I don't see what the difference is. Most sledders will pack their oil, belts, plugs and various other spare parts with them, so pending any major break down they are pretty much self sufficient for the weekend, no?

I have talked to a few motels.. and they rather have snowmobiliers than skiers.. snowmobiliers spend money, skiers crowd 8 into a room and share granola that they brought with them

I agree with Nate,
I have never heard anyone brag more about how much they spend on thier sport than snowmobilers.

Every sport is fricken expensive, and everyone spends money, Many skiers drop up to a grand a day to heli ski. The big difference is volume I would think.... how many sledders are there in Revy on a Saturday? 500? maybe 1000?
I really am guessing but I do know at Panorama we have over double that amount of people on the mountain in one day.

That's funny, They probably tell the skiers the same about sledders! Some do for sure.... Some sledders are damn cheap too.

business's will definately change, they have to to make a living. I am sure they want both user groups to keep coming, and really don't care what activity they do.

D

but that is a good thing.

According to all the regular Revy riders.... they don't want any other sledders to ride there...;)

Remember, there is no snow in Revy, and lots of stumps, rocks and rain...:beer;:D

so stay away from revy!

i also see 4 skiers piled in civic with all the gear strapped to the roof.
i see 4 sledders,a diesel pig($),a sled deck($),probaly a trailer theres four people($$),4 newer sleds($$$$) then there's the fuel($$$$$$) the eats, drinks and beds($$$$$$$$$) hahahaha yeah go eat your granola snapperhead,us 500-1000 sledders could almost NOT cross one others path all dayin some places, and i think that'z what make those freaks skiers jealous.BUT i'm all for bringin the snowbunnies(skiers/sledders) and less sausage fest.:)

Drive upto the local ski hill in Revy ANYDAY, and have a look at the day lodge. Bunch of stinky fuggers sitting there eating Brown Bag lunch. Im dead serious, go ask them what the ratio is - Brown baggers to purchasers, you will be suprised to say the least.

Go watch in the grocery store, sledder will have half a cart filled with expensive mix, beef jerky etc etc, a skier will have a basket with melba toast, 2 hot dogs (without buns) and some granola bars.

Go to the bar, sledders buying shooters by the tray load, skier sitting there in the corner with a bottled water sweating his/her arse off in a gay multi-colored turtle neck sweater (Maybe on Ectasy or meth).

Want this to continue, or do ya get the point ? lol

No joke dude, stop at the ski hill when it's busy, its a fuggin site to see !!!

Bigger Bucks

Same thing in Golden this weekend, Stayed a the rim, which is usually full of sledders, four trailers- the rest was granola crunchers.... one woman asks me how the skiing is? I reply that i'm sledding, she says , Well... we wont hold that against you!!!! I thought for a moment how rude she was and commented that she can keep her 45 minute lift lines and 14 dollar beer.

The other thing that is really disappointing is that prices have gone up significantly on rooms and food since the granola cudd chewers have shown up, same thing in Revy has already started.

I think another term for the STD is "toque and doggers"

How many of those diesel's, decks, or sleds were bought in Revy or Golden? Very few. So that leaves your gas and food/drink/room. Aside from the gas, this leaves the same things as a skier. Like someone else mentioned, the difference is on a busy day at Revy or Kicking Horse there is around 2500 skiers on the hill. You do the math buddy. Even if some people are eating a bagged lunch, they had to buy it somewhere....aren't you eating a bagged lunch when you are sledding? Can't you see the similarity there? Are some of you really that dumb?

I am a skier and a wannabe sledder, hoping to buy a sled this fall.....I assure you all the multi color turtle neck jokes and granola jokes don't bug me, or 99% of the skiers I know - because on a ski trip or average weekend we eat steaks and drink our faces off night after night just like you do. Guess the only real difference is what we do during the day. Why that should upset all of you and give a reason for the hatred I have no idea.

Dude, you obviously have not been to a resort lately, beer is not $14.00, and lift lines are not 45mins. Even if this was the truth what does it matter to you?
Why complain if the room prices go up a few bucks... you don't seem to have any trouble bragging about how much cash you can spend on your truck, sled and trailer.
This proves my point, alot of sledders are narrow minded and high on themsleves. Many are not but the ones who are give all a bad rap.
What makes you a better person than someone who skiis?
You want to compare costs here ya go;
I take my family skiing to another resort like Fernie. It costs me $85 x 2 for adult passes, $50 x 2 for kids passes, rent a room for the night 150+, food a hundred at least, fuel for my truck $150. We have all of our own equipment but if we didn't it's another $150 for rentals.
You spend more per day than that?
Most hotels will rather take a family over 2 drunk dudes in a room anyday. Same $ and way less trouble.
My point is, it does not matter what sport you do, we all love the mountains and powder, why bash someone else for enjoying it their way?
Does it make you feel good about yourself?
By the way I own 2 sleds 2 boards 2 pair of skiis 2 dogs... does that make me cool to you?

You fuggin bertans just wont stop whining eh!!!!!!!! Hey I am a snowboarder who also has sledded since the late 90's and hey,I munch the odd the bag of granola myself!!!!!!!!!!! Dont you guys fill your tidy tanks at the rig before long change and buy your beer in AB before ya head out to BC??? So quit *****en about the granolas not spending as much as you in town!!!! And hey it is not like the granolas are out riding the sled zones... unless of course it is my buddies and I!!!!!!!! We are the ones with snowboards straped to our sleds and out climbing, jumping bigger, and makeing way sweeter down hill turns on our machines than you guys!!!!!!! So quit ur complaining and enjoy the fact that since the skiers have arrived in golden, revy, etc it is not such a frosted tip ,mullet having sausage party out at the bars in town!!!!!!!!

You've got a talent with the words. I agree, but it's alot more entertaining hearing you say it !

Who fuggin gives a $hit?

They are in revy and there to stay. Deal with it people.

Just be happy they don't take over Boulder, to ski. I go skiing myself once or twice a year, it is a blast, especially the ski bunnies and partying.

Deaner you said it!

Darko you live in a clouded, stereotyped world sometimes.

Northpow,
You should be thanking us 'bertans for supporting your local economies, Because we all know Vancouver doesn't.;)

So everything gets expensive, that is a sign of a growing economy.

Like Marcuso said, who gives a flying fug? Do you really think a bunch of resort type skiiers want to associate with sledders? I doubt it. Plus more snow bunnies in the bars is a good thing. I almost question myself what I'm doing on the weekend, going to a place where the sausage to taco ratio is rediculously out of whack:rolleyes:.

well not taking sides but being in the restaurant business near sledding and skiing heaven....4 skiers share a piece of pie...eat the main course from their magic brown bags....sledders eat burgers each..a couple beer as well at times...and pie each...anyway skies last what 10 years...maybe more..four to six hundred bucks,,???..sleds every 3 to four years average then the trade..12000 bucks plus a few grand performance upgrades...so anyway to me the math is approx 40 grand every 10 years sledders to six hundred skiers for the starting inventory...not bashing any group..but one plus one equals two

Dude, you need to do some shopping before you claim to know the price of things. Find a solid pair of sticks for under 750 bucks and let me know where so I can buy from their also. Then you put bindings on them, 3 to 400, then you need boots, easily 500.....for me or any buddies to get 3 years out of a set of boards would be a stretch. Then you need a ski pass, 600 to 1000, depending on where you ski. Obviously sleds cost more, noone is arguing that, but come on your skiing numbers are just a bit off.

Now the real question - who looks cooler in the bar, the skier in his bright turtle neck, or you hicks in your florescent sled gear? Seriously, buy another jacket and where it to the bar, your green arctic cat stuff is ridiculous when you aren't actually sledding. Even then it is pretty ridiculous.

Actually a good set of skis can run 1200$, boots, 500 bone, and usually they last 3 to 4 years tops, then something better comes along. then the lift passes, 75 bucks a day, the other gear... Trust me... skiers spend money,

Look at heli skiing, it is BIG business. Those are the ones you should be worried about. They spend 10,000 a week on powder skiing.... and actually threaten your sledding areas....

It is funny how the stereotype of them only eating granola and cornflakes comes in... Those are transients mostly... sounds like someone has to re-learn grade 1 math.

HAHA LUKE,, " Sausage to Taco " ratio... That is a gooder.:D
