What's the scoop on these sleds...the good, the bad. My buddy thinking about picking one up, it has 1800 miles and he's asking $5000. Is there anything we should look for?

Yeah, look for other ads. $5000 seems pretty steep for a sled like that with that many miles. I've seen 04 King Cats on this site for between $3500 - $4500.

I have an 03.5.
Over 3000 miles and never had the heads off. Been pulled home one time, broken drive chain.
Very solid machine very reliable.
I now have the M1000 and when I jump on the 900 it still feels very good when climbing. Honestly it is much easier to throw it around then the M1000. Doesn't climb as well in a point and shot but in the tight stuff it is easier to ride IMO.
Put a riser on the bars, I like the twin pipes, ride it like you stole it.
5 grand is a bit steep. I would work the price down a bit. IMO
O' one last thing, make sure you change the recoil rope once a year. Easy insurance and will keep you from having to start it off the crank in the back country. They are hard on starter ropes.
Watch the primary clutch, they love to eat the weight bushings every 300-500 miles. Also pull the drive shaft and change the bearings and keep the lubricated. Another insurance thing.

Like the others said, great sled but the price is high. If he wants to pay that much I'll give him his choice between two of them and fill the tank for him!

Ditto......way to high priced. I have a 2003 900 1M with all of the upgrades bells and whistles and I would kiss her goodbye today if someone offered me $5K. If this sled is stock, it is worth about $3K.

have same sled. in spring of 06, dealers were going to give me $2500 for it on a trade w/ under 1k miles. i know that's a trade and you're always going to get hosed on a trade....i just kept it and been riding it since.
awesome machine w/ a couple of easy mods. ie, 16" track and SJ brackets, seat, & riser.

i just bought a 900 1m with 1600 miles and 162 on it for 3200 he is 1000 to 1500 to hi good luck.

fishinwithfools just got a 159 1m 900 with 1600 miles for 3k, so keep looking.
