i have a 07 800R without electric start do i need to keep the gear on the clutch???? is it a balancer of some kind, or can i just remove it??? what effects would this have not being on the clutch??? i think it would be less rotating mass=better performance from the clutch???any input would be great!! thanks 66chevy327

Can be removed, you may feel a little more vibration and it does rev a bit quicker. The crank life theory is debatable.

The clutch is balanced with the ring gear on. when you take it off it must be rebalanced. It isnt a ton of cash either. I had mine done for 35 bucks.

i kno i had heard that brp put them on all the sleds or the tra 5 at least just to keep a consistant balance to them all and that way they could remove liability if some one was to add the ring and have the clutch come apart on them so they just added them all

another side to that

consider that your clutching is being affected by the ring gear being installed.
there could be a benefit to it, a little more rotating mass, keeping your rpms up when hitting those spots where you get gobs of traction on the hills.

the benefit is most likely negligable, but worth the consideration

its 2 lbs. of rotating mass. for every 1lbs. of rotating mas = 7lbs for weight so so do the math. its like lossing 14 lbs. it helps. you sill have to turn your clicker down a number.
