05 King 900 carbed - Setup for SLP twins/Advice

T
Friend just picked up an 05 King 900 carbed last night. Has SLP twins on it. (Has stock pipe too) Heard a few negatives about the SLP twins for this motor? Any advice on setup? Should be already setup, but we are going to go through sled before he rides for first time....just to make sure that there are no issues.

Thanks.

also what else is done to it - airbox gutted, flowrites, reeds, etc? More air needs more fuel. For what it's worth I have the same sled with the SLP twins, performance porting and heads, vforce 3, slp airbox, vents, etc. I am running a 390 jet between 8-10K for most days I think that is temps of 20 degrees. Can go as big as 430 if it is really cold and elevation 6-8K. Also have blue primary and Heel-x secondary with red spring and 68 gram weights. I think helix is 46 degrees but not sure. It pulls 8000 rpm all day long at that setup.

The sled has a flowrite on the top of the airbox and the clutching is I belive yellow green primary - 64 gm weights (not sure which brand), secondary is a Cutler rear spring with a 47* helix. Was told the mains were 400's. Not sure on needle position.

Has the stock 162" Attack 20. Rides 7-10K ft. in Utah.

you are going to need more wieght than 64g.. You should be close to the 68- 70 mark. Run 390 or 380 jets in it. just watch your tempature at lower elevations. run your needle on the forth setting from the top. (i will check my book to double check)

i have ran mine as low as 1500Ft with 380`s and the temp wasn`t to hot. you will have a nice crisp throttle.

agreed on needle setting - mid range is where it is really lean. I have mine shimmed at 3.5 and watch temps pretty close. 380's sound pretty small to me, but if it works for you then great. If I ran those my throttle wouldn't be the only thing crispy! I had a link to SLP's instructions at one point, have to see if I can find it. I also have a "jet chart" that I made for the SLP twins. I'll try to get a post of that up.

Dont ride it on the roads. If you HAVE TO ride a road or trail keep the throllte moving !!! Those pipes have a WICKED lean spot in the middle that its near impossible to get ride of. You run down the road at 1/4 throttle for 5 miles your going to need new pistons!! I gave up tring to tune my twins, burned down 2 motors, went back to stock. Keep am eye on your EGTs ALL the time. These pipes run great when they do. One day they will be great, 2 days later on the same mountain the sled bearly runs.
