Can anybody give me an Idea what this area is like?

It's sweet.
Sits in one of the most stunning valleys anywhere. Close to some great riding. I just got back from riding 4 days on the Alpine Plateau, which has access from about 10 miles North of Lake City. To the South and East on Slumgullion and SpringCreek passes, there are endless areas to ride with everything mild to wild. The snow is great right now, and with up to 5 feet forcasted for the San Juans this weekend, it looks like it's gonna be epic all winter long! Lake City is a nice, old mountain town, not completely yuppified like Summit County/Aspen etc. I like Lake City.

Its too advanced for your riding ability. You better stick with Grand Mogul (Grand Lake). Stay on the trails.

I think I'll be ok my sled runs on both cylinders.

Mine runs on both cylinders. it just takes about 30 seconds. It gives you a head start.
