Chain Tensioner and Gearing????

I have a 2002 rmk 700. I want to change the gearing so that I have more low end. Not too worried about going really fast just don't want to go really slow either. I live in upper michigan, i do alot of boondocking and any hill i see i try to climb it. I'm looking for a good gearing setup for my sled. any suggestions. Also the chain tensioner in the chain case. How tight is that supposed to be???? Thanks and I appreciate all the advice..

You could go 19/40 or 19/41 you will need to go to a 74P chain to do it as far as the tension, screw bolt in finger tight then back off 1/4 turn.

19/40 should be good for your area. Out west, we use 19/41 in the mountains. The above info is correct on chain tension...

I live out west and 21/41 is good. 19/41 is ok too. if u wanta climb hills you need the track speed. try some different clutching too. R8 helix with a blue siver spring. Round almond in the primary with 58 or 60 gram weights. let me know what works for you

58 or 60G???? Us Flatlanders usually pull 62's or 64's in our 700's Mine pulls 66's..... HEEHEEHEE....

As for chain tension, the HYVO chain likes to be a little looser. 1/2 turn from finger tight IMO. Others may and do have their own opinions, this is mine.

Thats ok mine will pull 64s at 11 thousand feet. haha but i like to rev it out a little more than usual. Why ride flatland? haha head for the hills make life exciting.

I would head for the hills if it weren't a two day drive out there and back. plus with gas being over 3$ a gallon, I might just wait to it the jackpot first...Plus I'd rather dump the couple hundred $ into my sled that it would cost in gas... there and back. Some day tho..

19/39 is what comes stock in the 02 700rmk. I just ordered parts so i'll be running 19/41. i'll let you guys know how it goes. almost 2 feet of snow now in northern michigan...
