Will be riding mostly 4000-8000ft but sometimes unload as low as 1500ft. Anyone used their head at elavations similiar. I could fatten it up with boondocker box or run some race gas if needed. How about combining with SLP Single pipe?

I ran a 14.5:1 head last year with SW pipe and it set off Deto sensor @ 6000'. It worked fine with stock pipe. I also had Kelsey cut a 14.1:1 and ran this setup at 8000' and up it worked ok but a little lean between 5600 to 6200 rpm ( valve opening area). I also ran stock pipe and it worked ok also. I am trying diff. pipes in Dec. with new 14.5:1 head. No boondocker on either setup. I tried it and found it wasn't needed. MTNRCR

14.5:1 might work good with SLP pipe (if you can get one). Otherwise I have found the same results as MTNRCR. A boondocker might not be a bad idea just to fine tune your fuel and I would use a EGT also.

I have the 14.5 with SW pipe, boondocker box with nos. Once its tuned I was told the sensor wont activate when running premium fuel. does that sound correct?

Well my 2003 800EFI has a RKT 13:1 head SLP single pipe and V-force reeds
I run at the same elevation you are talking about and it runs super. I mix 3 gallons 110 race fuel to 9 gallons premium (my tank hold 12 gallons).

This is not of course the 800 laydown engine you have but I would think it should work and run just fine.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but i,v got a 13.6:1 rkt head for an 07 m8 and run at 4000- 6500 but almost always start at 2500-3000 Kelsey thoght that this head would be no problem with 92 pump gas,bur as i,v talked with others i not sure.
The head isn,t on yet. Any hlep or advice would be great

My expierience is that prem. fuel does not help on the SW pipe. I even tried a 110 octane+ pem. mix and the det sensor still went off. All this was at 7500-8500 ft.

Again my engine is not the laydown style but when I talked to Kelsey in 2003
I told him what elevation I would be running and he said this head and 95 octane fuel would run great. He was right on the money.

Heck with all the EFI's out there and the control boxs you should really be able to dial your sled in. As far as I'am concerned if Kelsey said it will work
then it will.

I am running a 13.6:1 RKT on an 04 standup 800 with 91 octane from 2000 and up without problems. Ran a 13.75 on a 600 and it detonated until it took out a piston. 14.5 without race gas added seems like a stretch to me.

MTNRCR,

If you find a pipe/can that works well with the 14.5:1 without a box, can you drop me a quick note? I just put on Kelsey's port job and went from 14.9 to 14.5 (smooth to rough texture domes). 8-12K ft alt.. Removed the DD y-pipe and went back to stock since Kelsey says the DD detos and loses power with this setup.

My guess, this is about as far as you can take this engine without a box.

Looks like we're finally getting some snow here this week, might get to test this weekend.

Thanks,
ItDoAble

MTNRCR,

Keep us posted on what you find testing with different pipe combos. I will be running mine next weekend with 14.5:1 head and stock pipe. Planning on running SLP single but waiting for more feedback
