07 M8 vs 08 M8 engine HP Q's

1) Is the 08 M8 really stronger then the 07 M8? I have yet to see official reports or dyno's but have heard possibly 8-10 more hp on the 08 sleds. Almost comparable to the Dragon 800 output! (I hope this is true)

assuming that the 08's are stronger:
2) will AC offer a reflash to 08 specs for 07 models?

3) if AC doesn't offer a reflash for free, could I pay for one?

4) if all else fails, can I buy an 08 ECU and install on my 07 M8?

5) how will the 08 specs effect aftermaket pipes, heads, cans, air intake systems etc......

I've been holding off on engine mods until these questions are answered and 08 testing has gotten somewhere.

Well assuming all things are equal between the 07 and 08 motors, the only difference would be the programming, which i seriously doubt would leave 8hp+ on the table. If that were the case, you'd see some really strong running 07s with minor adds like a PL box making a lot of power. I don't see this as being the case.

Just my $.02 - but i think 08 programming will probably address issues like excess heat more than lack of HP. But i could be wrong...

The 08 feels stronger to me by a fair amount. I could not pull 73g last year at 9000ft. 08 pulled it at 9800ft saturday pretty good. So they definatly changed some thing from last year or I just had a lemon.

waiting on Cat

waiting for any dealer to step up......
keep being told wait till Cat offers it...maybe November. Of course if ya got a m1000 its a different story.

Tired of asking, if its a year old. Its not a priority to a dealer selling new sleds on a bad year.

If my dealer was more responsive, I might even buy another sled. If they are in no hurry, why should i be? Thinking about a Dragon....

I talked with the dealer here, and he was told nothing major in the way of engine changes from 07 to 08. tm8...I'm thinking you had a lemon, my M8 pulled 73g no problem at 9000 to 10000 ft.

what do you have done? that's about 4-5 more gms than anybody else I know of is running at that altitude.

You sure you didn't get a 1000 with a 3 post by accident???

isn't that a bit on the low side? If you look at dyno curves the power falls off rather harshly on both sides of 7550-7650 if I recall.

btw, for 9k+ it came with 65gm.

I'd want to actually be running the right R's myself instead of running weights that are too heavy for that motor.

sleds this year at 6 to 9000ft come stock with 73gr wts. like I said it seems to pull them pretty good. That being said I still think thier is room for improvement.

i heard from a dealer that the 07's may have some reprogramming issues cause the 08's are better and if cat does decide to do this you will have to pay for it.

if they come out with a new program for them, will there be a problem with all the pipes that were designed for the '07 program or will everything work fine?

Guys, here is a little down low between them,
The 07 has one map in ecm...
the 08 has 10 diffrent maps in the ecm,so it is very consistant, pulls way heavier weights, and all around better sled from the 07.....
This said the 07 will run the 73's and pull close to the 08....
hope that helps.

holy crap, I knew they made changes but wow, 8 grams seems like a HUGE difference. didn't mean to call you a liar, I just figured you were riding a lower alt setup.

On the other hand it does seem like they went too far, most of us with 07 M8's around here are running in the 69 range, I can't picture an extra 4 grams working well at altitude. When I ride rabbit ears I run around 70.75 gms & run right in powerband at around 9500 ft or so. they must have made some other changes on the 08's for them to spin that extra weight comfortably. (didn't sound like they changed enough to do this?)

I will be riding the ears the day after xmas if you want to ride it, I rode some M8s last year and they don;t run like this 08, I don't know why, but I am very happy with it so far.

unloaded at 9000 ft and went up from there, and like I said, pulled 7300 to 7500, by the end of the day it was pulling 7500 all the time, I could feel it really picking up as I rode and got miles on it. :D
