Many accidents on the trail lead to internal injuries. You wear a helmet but what keeps your upper torso together?? Yeah I know YOU are a great rider, but what about the knucklehead that comes around the corner in the middle of the trail? So you are boondocking and you hook a ski, " a body in motion stays in motion".
