Authorities Investigate Thefts Of Snowmobiles And Trailers
(Spirit Lake)-- Area law enforcement personnel are advising snowmobile operators to take extra precaution to secure their machines in light of a recent rash of thefts of the sleds.

Spirit Lake police say they're investigating the thefts of three snowmobiles that have been reported since Monday. Two of the sleds were on a 1998 10-foot long aluminum trailer, that's also been reported stolen. One of the snowmobiles on that trailer is described as a 2002 Bombardier Skidoo model MXZ800 that's black and yellow in color; the other is a 1998 Bombardier Skidoo 800 that's black in color with purple trim.

Spirit Lake police are also investigating the thefts of a 1995 Arctic Cat Mountain Cat 580 snowmobile that's black in color and a 2006 eight-foot long silver H & S trailer with a swing down ramp.

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of a 2003 Skidoo model MZX 800 that's yellow in color.

Authorities say most of the thefts took place along Highways 9 and 71 in Spirit Lake.

Police Chief Jeff Hanson advises snowmobilers to make sure their sleds and trailers are secure.

Anyone with any information into any of the thefts is asked to contact Dickinson County Crimestoppers at 336-2345. Any information that leads to an arrest is eligible to receive a reward of up to $200.
