I am in the process of switching my 98 XC 700 w/ 824's over to a 151 X 2 track and am looking for some words of wisdom on clutching options. As far as helixs, I have a Polaris R-12 and a SLP 52/36 dail-a-spring I might try out. I spoke with SLP and they adviced 10-64's with the blue/red and a silver/blue secondary. I am a pretty big guy 6'4" 360 pounds w/gear so that must be factored in. Also, the sled has SLP Powerdome Heads, SLP Trail Porting, and currently running SLP twins which I may switch to a SLP single. SO.... any words of advice would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS!:face-icon-small-hap

Right around 1,200 feet. I run 90% of the time around the northern part of Minnesota. I would like to get a good base to start with and when dialed in, then I will start exploring higher altitudes.

I'll say up front I have no idea what would be best at 1200' but I have had good luck with an R8 helix, the stock silver/blue secondary spring,an almond primary and as much weight as it will pull. Keep the rpm right at 8000. I would suggest 19/39 gearing but for lakes and trails that might be to low. Good luck, let me know what ends up working for you.

hey that is right up my alley . Gearing 19/38 with 8 tooth drivers . r11 with blue secondary 2 nd hole . polaris blue and white stripe 10/62 or mabe 10/64 primary.worked super good on my 97 sks before i modded the thing it had a 144 x 2 on it so you wont see the big diffrence in the 151 x2 from that . and i know i have the 220 cyc but my friends 98 rmk has the same set up now for here and it rips .it is a mid 90 s mile an hour sled but it gets there quick. his clocked at 94 mph last year mine was clocked at 98 2 years ago but thats just the cluch shiming it happens.

Gearing is a HUGE factor with a track that long and a 2 inch lug. I ran a similar setup with a SLP single on mine 98 700 RMK. I ran 21/41 gearing with a 52/36 Helix Silver blue secondary spring. For the Primary I ran a Polaris Almond spring with 10-62's or 10-64's based on the snow conditions but with you being a bigger guy your probalby not going to pull that much helix and 10-64's. This was all run at 1000-2500 ft.

An R12 is a pretty steep helix to pull with that big of a track and twin pipes. I would think you would have some trouble staying in your power band in deep snow or on any sort of a long climb.

Thanks for all the great advice!! In looking at all the comments, I think I will try the 10-62's with almond and a Silver/Blue with an R-11 or something close to that helix as a base to begin with and then tweak from that point. Also, I will plan on running the 19/39 with the 8 tooth drives. Alot of our riding is on and off the throttle and not much wide-open running on the lakes. Our group is mostly running in that 30-70 MPH and I am not the type of rider that needs to go 100 MPH+. If I can run in the 90's and have it pull like a freight train all the way up, that would be exactly what I am looking for. Once again, thanks everyone for your suggestions!!! If you have any additional words of wisdom please feel free to give me a shout.

I have another quick question about clutching.... what are the thoughts on the SLP "slippery" clutch buttons? Are they worth it or is there anything better out there? As long as I have everything torn down I figured I might as well rebuild the clutches all at the same time.

Thanks for your thoughts on the slippery buttons. I was kind of on the fence as to put a set in or not but I think I will give them a try.
