HD vid editing; System & Software ??

OK, got the GoPro Hero HD but now am realizing I also need a new system & software to edit. A new laptop has been on my 'to buy' list for some time, as my current one is pretty weak (1.79 GHz, 512MB RAM).

What system requirements are you guys running on? (Processor, Memory, etc.)

What editing software would you recommend? (just simple cutting, music, Youtube, etc. .. nothing professonal).

How do you manage the MP4 files in Windows, and the editing software?

This isn't what you want to hear, but here is what I'm using:
Quad Core Intel 3.0GHZ (2.4Ghz overclocked)
8GB RAM
3 Raptor Drives in RAID0
Windows7 64bit
Adobe Premier

And its still slow with the HD video :face-icon-small-sho

Just made my first video with the new setup and software, learning Premier, hope to post the latest creation this weekend.

Moving from Windows Vista to Windows 7, the play back of the video from the camera is smooth as silk on Win7, Vista was worthless.

I've heard Sony Vegas is good.

Less $$, Corel Video Studio ProX2 held me over for a couple years. Still used Nero 8 to burn DVDs.

I'm pretty good with editing video so I'm told. I run a decent computer and have a couple HD camcorders including a pro model. No lag with post production and I edit using Pinnacle Studio Pro 14. Here's a link my most recent video.

You be the judge but I say use decent software.
