adjusting the chain on 97 powder X

I had the chain brake on the wifes sled the other day. I got the new chain and put it on but wasn't sure what the proper way to adjust it is. Thanks for the help.

the book will tell you tighten easy and back off a quarter turn. i just take the slack of the chain and make sure its on the adjuster side (turn the sec so all slack is on this side) then tighten chain easy a few times with wrench and back off. i do the final adjustment by hand tighten til it comes up to chain then lock it. the chain will stretch so check it after first 50 and 100 miles

Sounds good thats about what I had in mind. The top gear was a little banged up on the side. It looks like when the chain broke it beat it up a little before it went to the bottom. Do you think this will be a problem? The teeth are still smooth and I don't think it will affect the way it rides in the chain.
