I was riding my 98 700 RMK the other day and was running like garbage in the bottom and midrange. After about three miles my buddy stopped me and we popped the hood. the can was glowing. Lean condition? It ran fine the ride before. Any suggestions?

Were you riding lower elevation than normal?

Could be a crack in the carb boot or a clogged pilot jet, also a bad crank seal is a possibility. Might have been running a little lean the last time, just not enough to be noticeable.

I have seen this before and found a cracked carb boot to be the issue.

i will have to check the carb boots next time i get up to the cabin. There was no change in elevation. I'll check the jets also as this sled doesn't get ridden all that much since it is my backup. Thanks for the help.

If you are that lean the motor will go before the can glows red. Something inside the can has broken loose or moved causing a restriction.

This is not the first time someone has had this issue on here.
