What is the biggest bottom gear you can fit in the older 2002 style chain case?

I have a 43t and it fits but with chain on seems extremely tight, anyone run one or is it not advised?

I believe 43 but be religious about checking chain tension, had a friend let his get loose with the 43 tooth and it was riding up on the teeth on the sprocket. It then wore a hole through the bottom of his chaincase.

I can't remember if the chaincase was the same, but I ran 19/43 on my 03. It was tight as you are saying.

I think the 03 had the new style chain case which is slightly larger, on my 04 I run 19-43 and there is plenty of room. The 02 is pretty tight, guess I will try it and just keep the chain tight. Thanks

On the 03' Escape, (19-39) Does anyone know if the chain has to be replaced if changing to a 43 ?

Thanks--Proflow
