Gearing and clutch weight changes

Could someone educate me on gearing and clutch changes? I have an 09 800 Dragon 121. I am a Flatlander 0-2000 feet. My stock gearing is 25/40 with 78 pitch chain. The weights stock were 10-68's I put 10-70's in and still have the rpm I like (8100) With the 10-68's my backshift was very abrupt the 70's smoothed that out. Would a minimal change of a 41 bottom gear even be worth it ? That would take my gear ratio from 1.60 (stock) to 1.64 still with the 78 chain? I am trying to learn and any help is appreciated. I rarely ( maybe twice a year get up over 100) We mostly trail ride, corner to corner stuff.

Yea the genral rule here in trail contry is down one up one on the gearing as fast xc said . now on your cluching you only ride trails or do you get in the diches and push it ? If you stay only on trails you can get agressave with the cluching let me no

O.k. If I go 24/41 I could still be o.k. w/ the 78 chain and that would put me @ 1.71 Gear Ratio. If I do that what changes are typical, as far as rpm, etc..
The way we ride is mostly rough trail, with occasional of trial, not a whole lot of wide open spaces.

How much do you weigh ? I can give you a good hot 0-70 mph set up for the trail but it will be a little lugish in deeper snow or a heaver load like with two people or towing a sled. The trick with the cfi 800 it to keep it about 7900-8000 rpm in accel .

Ok with your rider weight the driven will do good . And the two drive set ups i do are 10-70 with dark blue and white polaris spring and 10-72 with black and white polaris spring. The later will hold a little less rpm in acc and do good for slick trails .

Doing this puts you at a little higher tourk for good accl. Running more rpm is little more horse but not as quick for us .for a moutain set up you want a little more horse to keep it going as you climb like enurisa.
