Anyone have any info on the 180 h.p. nytro kit that MCX has advertised on page 27 of the new snowest mag. I only get out west a couple weeks a year and dont know if I can justify spending 6-7 grand on a "real" turbo

If your going to spend the money go with the 240 kit. Can't see putting on a turbo for only 40 hp. A NOS kit will do that.

There were rumors a few months ago about the 180hp kits, and supposedly they were going to be sold through yamaha dealers

I haven't heard much lately until you posted this

If the price is right I'd try one - especially if there is an upgrade option.

I can see use of a 180hp kit, you get 180hp @ sea level and ~ the same @ any altitude, with NOS you get xxhp on top of what you have, and that is ~130hp @ sea level, and much less @ altitude, MCX turbo kits is altitude compensating and you get pretty much 180hp @ any altitude.
Another tweak is that the 180hp kit is upgradeable, if you after a while think 180hp isn't enough and want more you contact your local MCX dealer and say you want more you get a price on the stuff needed for 240hp or 270hp, isn't that sweet!

Yes it may be upgradable but your going to spend thousands anyway, may as well make a more noticable difference if your going to spend the money. I love my 240 kit and will probably bump it up to the 270 kit. The power is addicting.

No one is arguing about that :).
But i hope (and believe) the 180hp kit is pretty reasonable priced, and is a very good starting point, and to be fair it's going to be enough in most condition, and maybe second year (or when better half is in good mood) when you start thinking 180hp isn't enough you can step up the ladder to 240hp, and third step 270hp, and fourth step ....
How much is enough, who knows? ;-).
As Calvin said, boost is addictive....

From what I hear it's about half the price when you add the install labour
I think it's like 6 hours instead of 2 days
Be good to see a well tuned 180 kit on the snow, I think it's a great deal, go for it

The install time is much less. The turbo will be the same as the regular kit, however there is no shim nor intercooler and the fueling is accomplished differently.
The upgrade to a full kit would require the shim (installed = a lot of time), a different fuel system and the intercooler, as well as some small items I would assume. So an upgrade later, although possible, would not be cheap.
US pricing is currently said to be $4199.
I'm sure more information will be coming soon.

I think its a great idea...lets say ur running at 8500 feet, you have maybe 100 hp at best, now for $4500 you have a true 180 hp...almost double the torque 2...and more if you want later

Update -

Cheaper Supercharger

http://snowmobiles.yamahablogs.ca/2009/09/02/injection-is-cool-but/

20 hp for 2500 canadian

So would that give us 165 to 170 at altitude? or is that wishful thinking?

I don't find were it says + 20hp, but if it is +20hp @ sealevel boost level is very low, supercharger steals some power tho but maybe ~3lbs, it's on an Apex with 150hp.
Diffrence between a sc and a tc is that when climbing in altitude the sc doesent compensate for the loss of air density which means you loose boost aswell as stock hp, so 165-170hp @ altitude sounds as wishful thinking!

will there be a kit like this for the apex to or just the nytro?

Other way around - kits are only for the Apex. Reading more over on Totallyamaha they say that the nytro does not spin enough rpms off the crank to make this work. A similar kit would work on the Phazer though since it also spins high RPMs like the Apex.

Yup, now i found it, i was sceptical cause it was such a low figure, but it was ;-).
+ 20hp @ sealevel for 2500CDN, doesen't sound cheap 2 me.

EDIT - This comparison is invalid - MCX Kit is for the Nytro as T-Bird points in a post below

MCX Kit is 180 hp right? For $4500 canadian?

So $150/hp - with the key feature that it can be upgraded

The supercharger kit (assuming 20 hp gain) is $125/hp but is putting out less power and is not upgradable to more boost.

Different strokes for different folks, glad to see some choices on the market.
