Anybody tow with a 8 inch lift or 37 inch tires.Seems like I cant get more than 250 km on a tank of fuel with my 06 f-350 superduty diesel, pulling a 27' charmac trailer.Even seems like 110km/hr is a struggle.Had headgaskets and tranny replaced this fall and havnt pulled since or chipped it up again so Im not sure if its always been a pos or been detuned or just time to get rid of a real lemon.Mabye trade for a dodge or chev?

I have an 05 powerstroke with 70000 on it. The tranny has been replaced one injector and headgaskets. It gets 12 MPG unloaded its bone stock. My friends Duramax gets 12 pulling four sleds down the I-State. It is also lifted 6inches with big tires. The 6.0L is junk there had starting, loud and have no durability.

I have a 2001 F350 with the 7.3 Powerstroke in it. It has 160,000 on it. I get 16-19 Just driving and get 11-14 towing. With a 4" lift in it and 35's on it. Wouldn't trade this truck for a newer one, because all that i have heard about new diesels i am not impressed with them. This is just my 2 cents

I have a 7.3 power stroke get 14 unloaded and 11 to 12 towing. 410 gears, 4 inch lift and 33's I got 20 before the lift and around 15 towing. seems the increased height and the sectional width of the tires make a huge difference :(

OK.LOL fuel economy is going to be bad.Figured out with 3.73 gears and the 37 inch tires its like having 3.35 gears.That might be a bit tall of gearing and mabye the truck lugs a bit and fuel economy might suffer a bit when towing.To get back to more of a stock gear ratio need 4.16 gears or mabye 4.11 would be close enough.I wonder if reving a bit higher getting closer to the 3.73 ratio would be worse fuel economy or would sticking to the higher gear ratio and being low on power be better or just run a small HP tune to make up for higher gear.

Matt, sounds like you need to fix your truck. Haven't had a hard time starting mine even down to -30, hell even with the batterys starting to get weak!

6" and 37's (now 36x15.50's) here on my 05, unloaded is 15-17, 8K pounds is around 11mpg, 12k pounds was 8-9mpg, towing over 3 mountain passes, trying to pull as hard as you can. I have always been impressed, tho i do realize that with my custom tow files that lock the converter would be way better with stock tires, as thats the RPM range it wants to pull at. I would love to throw some 4.30's under it, hopefully some day i can afford to.
The hotter the tune, the better the economy will be IF you can keep your foot out of the rad support.
Curious, what tuner/chip/modules are you guys running causing you to eat transmissions?

Got an 03 Cummins with 3.73s, 6-spd manual, stock programming, and 35's...had 37's before. I lost 3 mpg all around going with the larger tires. Now, empty about 18, 3 place enclosed about 14, and dump trailer w/excavator (14k lbs) about 12.

I will be installing 4.10s soon and hope to regain a bit of power and mileage. The nice thing about the bigger tires and stock gears though is that you can run down the road quite a bit faster (empty) at cruise rpm:beer;

I had SCT tuner with tunes by innovative diesel.Did some reading seems like 4.56 gears wold be ideal for 37 inch tires.Phoned offroad shop said about 2500 bucks to regear and ford told me over 5000.LOL. They sell all kinds of trucks with lifts but seemed like they never heard of anyone wanting to change gears.The morons.

Its pretty uncommon, most people just keep throwing more power at them to compensate then wonder why the tranny takes a dump. Most guys can get away without doing it up to about 37's, although if you were doing much towing, obviously its well worth it. Tons of guys go with the 4.30's, the only issue is if you run small tires on it for winter... Its going to hate you. When i was towing 12k pounds i did wish i had gears, or stock tires (37's were on it), because with a good tow tune and the converter locked, it would start to suckhole on some long pulls. Even 2500 sounds a bit steep, but i suppose at inflated Canuck parts pricing, i could see it. If i was doing it, i would replace that garbage "Posi" for a true trac unit, which is another chunk of change.
