Feeling the love
The Keweenaw and snowmobile communities are extremely supportive, but Dee says it’s the volunteers who really make it happen – including Stachler, who continues being involved. “Lori Sleeman and Kathy Bonini have been instrumental in gathering prizes for the silent auction and raffle. They also show up early to help us set up for the banquet.”  Dee’s wife Nora also assists before, during and after the event. “She handles the registration and helps me gather many of the donated items,” Dee notes. “On the day of the banquet, she is at the front door welcoming everyone with her beautiful smile and getting them signed in and set up. She also helps with banquet preparation and takes pictures of the event. Last but not least, she puts up with me and all the stress I can be during the months leading up to the event!”

Many of Dee’s website loyalists have become Snowfest regulars. Gregg and Tammy Schroeder of Mosinee, Wis. try to attend every year. “This is such an amazing, awesome event,” said Tammy, “It combines what we like to do with an opportunity to support a great cause. Everyone involved is very welcoming and the recipient families are very appreciative.”
