When it comes to snowfall, there is no disputing that the Tug Hill/Lewis County region reigns supreme. With an average snowfall of over 200 inches per year, Tug Hill receives more snow then any other location in the northeastern United States. As a matter of fact, the town of Montague located on the hill, actually held the world record for snowfall for quite some time with a record 77 inches in 24 hours!

This unique area has is over 2000 miles of some of the most diverse and beautiful terrain you will ever see on a sled. Mountains, woods, rolling hills and massive gorges are all in a days ride. Unlike Old Forge, the Tug Hill riding area is so large, you will have to first choose a town to start from, secure accommodations and hit the trails. There are a multitude of snowmobile friendly towns to choose from that sit on the trail system ranging from upper New York all the way down to central New York. Riding and seeing all of Tug Hill will take more then just a weekend ride. Learning the trail system can takes years so having a trail map is a must for new riders. Quite often, Tug Hill is the riding spot of choice many out of state riders looking for snow. Due to this large amount of traffic, the trails can occasionally get beaten on the weekends so be prepared to hit some bumps when riding in certain areas.

Overall, Tug Hill is basically a rider's paradise with never ending trails, tons of snow and beautiful scenery. Trail permits are not required but all sleds are required to have a New York State registration.
