im gona go look at an m8 for sale but i dont think the guy knows the track length on it. is there any way to tell just by looking at it?

Google search some pictures of a 153 M8 and a 162 M8...pretty easy to tell the difference a 162 is substantially longer...
The length should be embossed in the side of the tunnel extension or have a decal on it. You can also look on the track, there is a part number in the track center that will be a four digit number, then a dash, then a three digit number. You can google that number and it will tell you the track.

If all else fails measure the track pitch and start counting. 3 pitch X 52 = 162.
You could also measure from the rear tunnel to extension seam to end of tunnel. The 153 is 34.25" and the 162 is 39.5" ish.
