Can you run a 2010 crank in a 2008 engine, I know it will fit,but will the timing be the same???

What do you mean the timing? It's a twin, the pistons are 180 deg away from each other.

Ignition timing, you do realize that can be advanced.. don't you?

I'm posting for a friend of mine try to help him with problem.
It's a 2008 m8 with a 2010 crank. It runs fine but make no power, we have tryed everything from electronics to power valves, pipe sencer..
I was thinking that the key way could be cut different spot, retared timing.
He check the part numbers for the cases and the stater assemble and they are the same for the two years. We are thinking on trying a 3 degree timing key to see if that helps.

So what your saying that by using the 2010 crank that is a pork chop style you would have more case volume..
Have you be through problem before.
As RS said the case volume will not like the 09 pipe and the HO pipe wont like the port timing on the 08 cyls or the lack of timing advance. IMO

Thanks for the input, I talked to him today and we desided to just put a 08 crank back in and sell the 2010 stuff.
