What can I do to turn a 2005 M7 into a beast on the hill? What add on's or mods are you guys running to hang with the newer iron on the mountain?

Honestly? Ride the p!ss out of it and you'll hang. It's still right up there with the newer chassis IMO.
Look at some of the old threads about Msled tips.
Have had a M7 since 06. Wifes sled that has been a great sled. It's still pretty much stock.
Front arm relo bracket, 2 deg timing key and some good clutching and venting are the only perf mods.
Biggest bang for the buck was getting a clutch setup from Racinstation. It now spools up like it should, back shifts well and pulls full rpms all day.
I put a Nytro takeoff Maverick track on it years ago. The original owner butchered up the A20 track right out of the box. Most people didn't like the Mav track. It's held up well and does good in the pow. I'm sure not as good as a lot of the newer tracks. I'd change the track out for a good track too.

AZ800 hit most of them.
I had a blast on my 05 M7 but I must say it was awesome upgrading to my 2010 m8.
But some of my favorite things I did to that sled were:
Boss seat
SLP powder pros
clutching tweaks
2" riser
newer style rear bumper mod

The one thing I didn't do but really wanted to was better running boards. The stock ones absolutely suck and let no snow through. there are a ton of aftermarket ones available. Also Ebay is loaded with reasonably priced used parts.

What length is it? know what track is on it?
A powerclaw would defiantly benefit you if you don't have one already...

The efi m7 was one of the funnest sleds I've ever owned and handles mods well. Unfortunately it would take an insane amount of $$ IMO to get this sled to run with today's sleds. At that point one would wrestle with selling it and getting into the PC setup or keeping it as a project.

The options are endless when it comes to turning the m7 into a beast on the hill. I'd start in the motor.... Porting, high comp head, pipe (s), maybe big bore... If you are a relatively decent tuner and good with a wrench the cutler dragoncat 1000 is one of the most insane mods I've ever seen on an m7. 200 hp on pump gas. In fact there's a guy on here willing to trade for a stock engine in the Swap meet. From there I'd go to clutching new track and shed as much weight as possible. Keep an eye on the swapmeet and ebay I've seen some good prices on quality used parts for that sled. Have fun with whatever you do.

My 05 M7 got the SLP performance edition package and ran very well. The porting really woke that thing up.

It has a stock 153 track on it. Could I get away with putting a 2.6 power claw on it? If I went that route would I have to do anything else to make that track work or does it basically fit right in? Would a 2.6 power claw wake this sled up a little more?

Yes a 2.6" powerclaw will fit right in with no additional mods and make it a hole different animal. That's probably the best bang for the buck mod you could make on an m7. Other things id recommend that work awesome on my m7 is gear the diamond drive down to a 55/65 and toss 10.4" secondary sheaves on, and do the '09 and up rear bumper.

Kevin We did everything Vern has done plus speedwerx pipe and AAean Muffler and one more - Black diamonds Ceramic rotor and pad. We have three and the 141 we did not gear down and the 162 limited has a RacingStation 800 Big Bore. Awesome snowmobiles!!!

This is my M7. Did a 2 degree timing key , y pipe, boondocker box, air box venting , racers edge m10 and a 174"x2.5" track. It works very well!

flat out

once you leave flat ground, YOU MUST GEAR THESE DOGS DOWN.

It took cat forever and ever and ever to figure this out.

Really smart running sleds with gearing, secondary clutch springs, mds weights.

After gearing and clutching, good track , then seat, then ride it and save money for new sled.

I added a 2.5 challenger track this summer and made a BIG difference in the steep and deep. also did a tunnel update (don't think it really does anything besides make it look bada$$) also a boondocker fuel controller and timbersled intake. and did an oil injection delete, can also turn down the pump but I have no problem mixing, it cut my oil consumption down ALOT. these sled are a lot of fun to throw mods at. im definitely not done with mods for mine!

M7 mods

I've done a bunch and my 07 rips. Probably pushing 160hp plus its light. A new track really helps. 2010 Powerclaw, 2010 rear axle, SLP Twin pipes (13hp), Boondocker EFI controller, Timbersled intakes, shaved head, top end work, SLP Trail porting, Fox air shocks up front. Next I will upgrad rear suspension. Im keeping mine for a spare, just bought a 2012 M800 162.

Good luck and Over the top!
