2008 M1000 ECU update-Dealer says they can't update

I bought a leftover 2008 M1000 several years ago. It was suppose to have the ECU update done. I tried doing the engine reverse wiring mod and it wouldn't work. I took my ECU to my local dealer and they told me that it hasn't been updated, but that they couldn't update it either. They tried and the system wouldn't let them. Is there somewhere I can send my ECU to get the update, so that I get my engine reverse working?
