Never been to snowies looking at going real soon. Looks like west side is pretty windy east a little calmer. Can you still ride up there when winds whipping around about 30? Thinking about staying in Albany? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Ya got it backwards, east is windy, west calm for the most part. Albany is south and almost always calm, the areas down there are protected from the wind, much more so than up top by the ridges.

FYI.....30mph is a calm day in the snowies! The wind never stops blowing there, if they are calling for 50-75mph go down to Albany and stay in the trees and stay off Libby flats. The west side is closer the the "good" snow. Eric

Rode there Sunday. We unload on the East past Centennial and it seems like its always windy until you get over Libby flats (top of 130). After that the west side usually seems like its calmer and better snow.

Wow I thought nd was windy. I guess we don't hold a candle to this area. Is there anywhere on the west side to stay that you can just ride your sled from your door and be in good snow in ten miles or so? If you stay in centennial are you within 10 miles or so of good riding west of Libby flats or do you need to trailer up a ways? Thanks guys.

If you stay on the Centennial side it's a 6 mile trailer up to Greenrock parking. From there you follow the trail, it goes over Libby Flats about 4 miles out, past there you're golden. I never go over Libby, most of us will cut off the trail thru Libby Creek and make a short cut below the mtn and meet back up to the trail at Belamy Lake.
Now on the west side you have Saratoga, lots places to stay and about a 30 minute trailer to riding. The Rondesvous, 10 Mile Inn, and Medicine Bow Lodge are all on the trail and you can ride from your door.
Gotta go, looks like it snowed all night............headed up now.

Was up Sunday in the northwest area around Arlington. Some of the best riding I've had this year. Not touched and good powder everywhere, on the trail, in the trees, and in the meadows. North of Turpin was a ghost town covered with fresh powder. Awesome ride. But a long ways from green rock, but very doable from chains end, med bow, or ten mile. Will be back up there this weekend.

30 MPH???? Wyoming folks look at that and think, "the wind stopped".
