spent a few summers up there working on a cabin for a friend of ours, I am not incredibly familiar with the area, but i seem to remember a medow that was called beartrap. We always took slip road coming up from kaycee, and it was where slip met hazelton. the cabin was a few miles south of that medow . Is the snow " usually" decent up there to ride? or is it best to go more north?

id be hesitant on spending the money to hit the horns so far. Tog or snowies would be a better choice. The southern horns usually dont get at much snow and seems to be more landmines imo

I wouldnt recommend the snowies right now.

As for littleredstroker's post. Beartrap is a ways down hazelton road. It usually isnt very good riding down there because it isnt very high elevation (around 8500 if i remember correctly). It is far better riding to drive up to powder river or over to deer haven if riding the south horns. Especially with the late start to winter, the best riding will be at high elevation. But if the south horns get some snow the riding up there is usually pretty good.

Pics videos and suggestions

Trying to plan a trip and would like to know where the best place to go. Seems to be Togwotee or West of Pinedale. I am willing to travel anywhere in Wyoming, Colorado or Montana. Driving from South Dakota. Any suggestions, please let me know!!!

No suggestions from anyone?

Just trying to plan a trip and need any suggestions you might have. Togwotee looks to have the best forecast.

Most of the trails are decent. Some big bare spots, theres alot of POW to be had, or was before we got here. Still no base in lots of places. We found 3-4ft of dry pow all day, lots of landmines

Do you mind telling me where you've been? I usually ride the P trail up to battle park. Snows usually better up there.

I have no idea where i was! 2nd time ever being there! Stayed at bearlodge. We rode today and still found good spots. We destroyed meadow after meadow, did some hill climbing, was a great day until the wind picked up and it snowed probably 6" in under am hour. Lost an a-arm to a rock and we headed in.

Parked at hunt mountain road today and ride west. Seems like the farther you got from bear lodge the better the snow. Don't let these pics fool you. We had to ride over some rocks and sagebrush to get to these nice pockets of snow. But once in the pockets of snow it was good. North facing slopes seemed the best. Was snowing so hard when we left could barely see. Going up tomorrow to see how much more snow we get. Not a bad maiden voyage in the bighorns

NEW INFORMATION*** The road up from the West HAS been plowed*****

have 1'4" of fresh powder on the ground this morning, covering a 1'8" base. The wind was wicked with this system and there are much deeper pockets out there. As of yesterday afternoon the West side of the mountains had gotten more snow than the Burgess side. If you plan to come in from the West be aware that the road from Five Springs to the Crystal Creek Rest Area will NOT be plowed until after Christmas.

Should be some good riding out there, but be aware that there are still exposed fences and rocks.

Have fun and Happy Holidays!
