I'm from ND and was hoping to get out West one last time over spring break the 13-18 or so. Cooke City, Island Park and the Bighorns look dry for over a week.

I know half of Colorado just got a ton of snow...where are the best places to ride in this area? Stay in Laramie and ride by Albany Lodge? Or go further south into Colorado and head west up the mountain?

Never been in this area, any help would be great!

If you are looking to go out of Laramie, you may consider going up at Centennial . We often go up from Centennial as it is closer to the high country riding on the NW side of the range although we have never rode out of Albany. There is the Green Rock parking area 7 miles up from Centennial.

If looking to stay closer than Laramie (30-45 minutes or so from the trail head), you could consider the Old Corral in Centennial and trailer up each day or there is lodging at Snowy Mountain Lodge at the end of the road or Mountain Meadow Cabins a couples miles past the end of the road (the owner brings a sled to haul up your gear).

Both of the on-mountain options would require you to bring your own food, fuel etc. They are rustic but include nice lodging and full kitchens at reasonable prices. Snowy lodge rents by the week. Below are some sites that may help you out. You should be able to access some trail maps etc. Be sure to remember your Avy gear and out of state trail decals. Happy riding!

Awesome info, thanks! After doing some reading, I was looking towards the Albany area and staying at the lodge unless its booked.

The biggest problem we are running into is knowing what type of snow the area will get by mid next week when we decide where to go. Is a Snotel report my only option?

We are going up tomorrow from MN and IA. They got some good snow in the last week. Looks like sunshine and low 30s next week and possible snow next weekend. But it is always spotty with the forecast there. Snotel is about the only fairly reliable source I have found.

Rode the Snowies from Greenrock Saturday. Snow was set up in many of the exposed areas but there were some stashes in spots that have some sun and wind protection. Maybe some snow coming at the end of the week. If you end up riding from Greenrock, go early. If you got there at 9:00AM you were parking way down the highway. Warm day.

The silver lining to the snow was that an 8 year old with a 108" track could play off trail in a lot of spots.
