2010/2011 Clutch Spider Breakage Poll

Seems to be quite a few posts on people experiencing broken spiders on the 2010 & 2011 M8's, and maybe other models.

Please post your experience. You can vote for break/no break and also premature/normal.

I do not think you will see 11 breaking they had an issue with the 10 and they knew it.

anyone have pics of the spiders breaking? i got a 2010 m8 with 550 miles. Is this something cat will warranty?

not sure what the spider actually is, but i did

break the bolt that holds my secondary on...it started to back itself out, and then snapped instead backing all the way out...

2010 m8 sno pro with about 450 miles

my brother broke his helix on his 2010 with about 300 miles

alright that pic shows the spider its the part that ur spring compresses on when ur outside clutch cover compresses the other side its got the 3 post on it

I voted to soon, after pulling my clutch apart to change the spring on my 2010 M8 today I found a crack in the spider.

Then I pulled a friends 2011 HCR clutch apart to change yet another broken spring I found a large crack in his primary. Arctic Cat we have a problem.

seems like alot of hcr's i wonder if mine breaks if they can put a 2011 clutch on? my dealer said that the puller for the 2010's and 2011's is different from one another.
they also said the clutch puller for the 2010 clutch is on back order till march? what a bunch of dumby's!!!!

2010 M8 at 1300 miles

Mine broke at 1300 miles - pics show spider broken at 2 of the 3 rollers - the spider nut came loose and let the spider rock a little and bind up big time.

Result: Wasted 2 days getting it home, and a new AC primary free of charge.

Good times!!

My friends 2011 M8 spider exploded 300 miles on sled got a new one from cat on warranty I am also getting one on warranty because all bushings are wore out at 1500miles and that is BS cat I should put a polaris clutch on and be done with it!

We have gone through these clutches since 2005 anywhere from 1500-2500 miles and the Spider is junk..

Latest thing we are doing is installing Polaris P-85 clutches on there.. The taper needs to be changed as does the sheave angle.... But the clutches will last and are rebuildable...

i have a 2010 m8 1000 miles and mine blew apart so bad it put 2 big holes in the belly pan. My dealer says that he has never seen a clutch go out on the 2010s and he doesnt think cat will cover it. He also seems to think that it is something i did wrong some how. Sounds like i will be getting a polaris this spring if that is the case.

I got a new 2011 primary, secondary, clutch cover and pipe when my clutch exploded. had to double out drive to town and get new parts to ride it out. how much would it cost to have a polaris clutch machined to fit on a cat crank?

I do not have the complete pricing.. YET.. since this is new.

Alll I know is that we went through 6 primaries in 1 season on 2 different 2010 M8's

Sounds like it may last ~1000 miles.... ><

The "other 3" need to look at Yamaha's clutching...seriously, their doing something right if stock clutches can handle up to 300+ HP for 1000+ miles per belt...

Why must everyone [manufactures] reinvent the wheel, use what works.

Granted, I don't hear of too many Pol issues...but I've skimmed a few topics about broken posts/spiders from this season?
