Anybody have any experience with an xr650r with a kit on it

How did it do in the snow

Feel too heavy?

Pain to start?

Any issues
I know there is no fit kit available but I can figure that part out.

No experience, but I can tell you that extra weight is a bummer. Power is great, though!

I have a KX500 on a 2.5x146 track and I would be jealous of your smoother powerband.

They did make a fit kit for that bike. Check with them and see if they still have some.

I swear there's a guy on here every so often that rides an XR650 but I think it may have a ST on it. Hopefully he will see this or someone will know his username.

We Still Luv Our BRP with a 2011 ST

The BRP (Big Red Pig) with S/N 00017 TS ST is a great snow bike.
I have posted a fair amount in the past about the BRP as a snow bike.
The BRP works well but is less than ideal for a snow-bike.

It has the torque to pull the older kits.
I think it would be more than fine with an LT.
I did snow check an LT this year for my KTM which will probably find its way to the BRP next year.

If you are serous about a BRP Snow-bike drop me a line 801-598-8947

I Can help with MFG or take lots of pictures of the Fit Kit that TS no longer has.
Or convert BRP to USD forks and use CRF fit kit up front.
I can get you the strut rod length and other particulars.
TS has bigger fish to fry.

Im interested as well..

I have a 05 BRP that i ride singletrack in the mountains of idaho, and would love to strap some snow shoes on it. It seems to me like the ideal bike for a MH kit. Why do you say "less than ideal"? Is cooling an issue?

To me, the weight isnt as noticeable as the lack of electric start. Its also fairly oddly porportioned, seems more suited to sit down riding. Sure wish honda could duplicate the 650r but downsize it to a 450 (save weight and eliminate the excess of power)... the crf 450 is just too needy for my liking

Pros / Cons as I see it with the BRP

History:

I own 2 2001 BRP's. One for dirt and one for snow.
Have been a BRP owner since 2001.
I still am very attached to the BRP although I have 4 525 KTM's.

Pros:

Over heating? It can get hot but not as bad as my KTM.
I have run hours at a time with out shutting off the Motor.
If I am worried about the Temp I just Pack the Radiators with snow before I shut off the motor.
It's a Honda.
Bullet proof has always come home.
2 Quarts of Oil.
Couch for a seat.
Low seat Height.
Low end torque with very track-able linear power.
Can be setup for 2-up
Out Pull's my KTM 525 in top speed
Newbie Prefered the Handling over my KTM (Flex-y Conventional Forks?)
Hard to break the track loose with that long stroke motor.
10/1 compression Ratio is both a Pro and Con.
Manual compress release.
Easy to start if you know how and what its asking for.
I like the longer wheel base.

Cons:

#1 Con Kicker Only. I luv the Button on the KTM's up in mountains.
Out of Print and Dated.
Stock Carb must be replaced with a FCR for Snow Biking it you want to ride in the mountains.
Fair amount of Handlebar vibration.
Heavy.
5 Speed Tranny. I geared My TS up for top speed and faster 1st gear but the ratios can be a little gappy.
Fit kit no longer supported by TS.
The 2016 TSS may be difficult to incorporate.

Summary
If you luv your BRP and on the fence with putting a track on it just do it.
I can help with your questions and possible Fab of fit kit.

that bike only makes 46 HP and with full mods 52 ish, A low rpm grunt motor, compared to 62 hp for a new 450 race bike @ 221 lbs
