I have a '94 yamaha vmax 600, and it started backfiring like crazy out on the trails, but I was able to drive the 30 miles back to my cabin, but other than that it started no problem and ran pretty good. I was trying to find out was causing the back firing, finally tested the compression and it was at 0. Checked the cylinder and piston and they were both toast, the piston ring broke and destroyed the piston and the wall of the cylinder. Replaced it and it all ran great. But I was just wondering everything I read if you are under 90 compression or so it shouldnt run, or atleast start easy, yet my sled was starting first pull everytime and such, I was just wondering how was that possible?? was I just "lucky" or am I wrong and that is pretty normal? thanks!
