The piston kit part numbers for the 2015 800HO (new engine) and the 2015 Pro-RMK (old engine) share the same part number...FWIW
Edit: Now the question is, is the 2016 grooved piston the same piston used in the 2015 800HO?????

2016 piston in a 2012
I like the idea behind the new piston. I wonder if they would solve the piston problem in the 2012. I have been in contact with Polaris customer service but they couldn't help. I've called Carls in Boise but haven't heard back yet.

Some of that was addressed in 2013 with the new cylinder casting, strengthening the skirts.
Piston problem in the 2012.. I do know they had a problem with the piston/cylinder fit. If you are having persistent problems with the pistons on your 2012, you need to look at the total package with cylinders/pistons/rings and you should be good.
My 2011, although no high-miler, has run like a champ all the time.
