Snowmobiling at the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports
Clinic, held every year in Snowmass,
CO, introduces military veterans
to an activity that levels the playing field.
Riding on a Bearcat, no one can tell the difference between
someone with a disability who uses a wheelchair or has a prosthetic limb and
someone who is able-bodied. That is the point of the Winter Sports Clinic: to
help veterans with disabilities learn new adaptive activities like snowmobiling
and skiing so that they become inspired to go home and stay active.
This year, the clinic will take place March 25-30 with
snowmobiling at the T Lazy 7 Ranch in Aspen. Participation
is open to disabled U.S.
military service veterans who receive care at a Department of Veterans Affairs
medical facility.
In addition, a number of active duty military personnel from
Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom have attended in recent
years.
